Jammin Java, located about 30 minutes west of Washington, DC, in Vienna, VA, was a perfect setting for an intimate concert, with an outstanding performer. The dimly-lit venue provided a small stage with an ample seating area and recently hosted Taylor Carson and his band. The show was opened by Alex Pilotti(acoustic guitar), a local talent who is currently working on his first CD. Alex’s solo performance consisted of a unique combination of originals and covers. His strong voice and smooth, driving guitar filled the room and set the tone for the show.
Now, onto the main event! For those of you who have not yet had the pleasure of seeing Taylor Carson and "The Bad-Weather Band" perform, they are a Must-See. The band is made up of Taylor Carson (guitar, vocals), Scott Harlan (bass), and Chris Keever (drums). Taylor's sound can best be described with a medley, including the vibrant voice of Jack Johnson combined with the distinctive style and spontaneous flow of Dave Matthews. Taylor's infectious energy and the fun-loving antics of the band can get even the most life-less audience involved. Scott's unrivaled skill on the bass adds an entirely new level to their music. Chris's unique drum style keeps everyone moving to the same driving beat. His combination of traditional drum set pieces with percussion instruments creates his own sound which makes the audience want to play along.
The quaint Wednesday night crowd clearly enjoyed the show, obvious from the bobbing heads and tapping feet. The set contained several original songs from Taylor's upcoming CD, such as "Like Bob Marley", "If I Fall" and "Dancing Alone" along with creative covers of "Superstitious" by Stevie Wonder, "Prince of Bel Air" by Will Smith and "Down Under" by Men at Work. Taylor, Scott and Chris were so intensely captivating that they could have played well into the night without complaint from the audience.
