PRESS RELEASE
RadioMojo.com Announces 2005 Band of the Year
Washington, D.C. – January 29, 2006 – Congratulations to Ruth, Julian, Paul and Dave of drinkme, from London, UK. They are RadioMojo.com's 2005 Band of the Year!
Drinkme was one of over 60 bands that entered this year’s competition. (For a complete list, go to radiomojo.com/boty/allbands.htm) Contestants came from all over the U.S. as well as Canada and Great Britain. To qualify, entrants had to have their submitted song posted on the Internet and had to somehow cross the Rock genre. “Most Band of the Year contests are rather narrow,” says Mike Jewsbury, General Manager of RadioMojo.com. “They’re either for specific sub genres or only unsigned or commercial bands. We wanted something that would truly search for the best band out there so we opened it up to any band, whether on a Major label, Indie label or unsigned.” The finalists were a mix of Indie and unsigned bands.
The entries were judged on such items as creativity, uniqueness, and lyrics. The RadioMojo staff, with over 30 combined years in the music industry, then submitted their personal rankings that narrowed down the top five to one. “We are humbled and very very pleased. Thank you so much,” wrote drinkme’s guitarist, Julian, in an e-mail interview. Check out their song “Manifesto” and Julian’s full interview on the Band of the Year (BOTY) page, or go to their website to learn more at www.drinkmetheband.co.uk.
The other four finalists were: Cedars from Washington, DC, Down To This from Washington, DC, the Niki Barr Band from Denton, MD and Snoozebox from Philadelphia, PA.
This was RadioMojo.com’s first year in running the BOTY contest. While bands have to wait for next Fall until they can compete for the 2006 contest, they are welcome to submit music for possible airplay at RadioMojo.com’s Contacts page located at www.radiomojo.com/rmcontacts.htm.
